Scottish Tour 26-29/10/2023

Back in Scotland for the 2023 Tour, our base was the Muthu Newton Hotel in Nairn. A total of 17 cars with no less than 10 different types of quattros.

The first evening, Keith Mardon, our route meister, gave us all the information for the 2 days as well as the latest weather forecast. As usual, we split in 3 groups.

Day 1 West to Applecross, 126 miles from our base. Mid-morning, after our traditional coffee stop, we passed the memorial of John Cobb. As the weather was fine, we took a small detour to the Mount Ratagan Pass and also stopped at the famous Eilean Donan castle.

After lunch we returned to Nairn following a different route. Downhill all the way and we all enjoyed our drive to the hotel for well-deserved cup of tea. Dinner followed.

Day 2, change of direction, this time East to the Grampian area to the Falls of Feugh Inn for the planned lunch stop. Good driving roads well suited for all types of quattros, it did rain on and off but nothing drastic plus we had the ideal cars.

On the way back, a stop was suggested in Portsoy to sample some ice cream, well worth it. The sky was grey but no rain, in fact we were lucky all day as the rain was intermittent and the driving conditions were fine.

As we said, the route for the Tour was prepared by none other than our route meister, Keith from Area A2. How do you do it Keith? Totally impossible to get lost during the 2 days. Well done and thank you.

On the last night, the usual 5-course meal. We thanked all the organisers for their sterling work and another faultless Tour. We duly presented them with some well-deserved goodies

And the cars, they performed very well indeed taking into account that some of them were 35/40-year-old.

Sunday morning was a later start for breakfast. Time for good byes and unfortunately time to go home. Yet another year gone by, now looking forward to the 2024 Tour.
